"The Sunday menu is small but it all smelt incredible and it made choosing so difficult! I was told it was the best gravy they've had in a long time! The downstairs area was small and had a nice cosy atmosphere — the staff were lovely."

Northern Quarter · Manchester M4
A Victorian pub with proper character, right in the heart of the Northern Quarter.
Craft beers on tap, a gin wall worth getting lost in, Sunday roasts that go until they're gone, and a kitchen that takes pub food seriously.
About the pub
Thomas Street's best-kept open secret.
The Bay Horse Tavern sits on Thomas Street in the thick of Manchester's Northern Quarter — two floors, two different moods. Downstairs is cosy and close; upstairs opens up. Both are full most weekends, and the Sunday roast queue speaks for itself.
It's a Victorian pub done the right way — the bones are original, the beer list has moved on, and the gin collection takes up more of the bar than strictly necessary. Open from noon every day, until 2am on Fridays and Saturdays.

The kitchen
Sunday roasts served until they're gone.
The Sunday lunch menu is small on purpose — every plate gets proper attention. Most Sundays the roasts are sold out before mid-afternoon, so showing up without a plan is a gamble. The gravy alone gets people talking.

"I had the steak pie with chips and my boyfriend had the fish and chips. A proper pie too with pastry on the bottom! The fish and chips are always stellar — the portion seemed very generous. It's one of our favourite spots for sure."

via Google"A local recommended the delicious fish and chips, so I visited. It was a weekday happy hour, so the place was packed. The food was delicious, especially with the pea sauce."
